FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Less Doctors, More Gurus, A
Pilot Medical Solution
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – March 27, 2012 – Pilot
Medical Solutions, today announced it will hire more gurus and less
doctors. The nation’s oldest aviation medicine company, which has been
providing help for pilots continuously since 1994, found that the majority
of aviation medical cases do not require a physician. Their cost-benefit
analysis also confirmed that using physicians, instead of government
document gurus, unnecessarily increased cost and in most cases delayed
timely processing.
Pilot Medical Solutions does employ physicians and
states it will continue to consult with specialists as needed. When the
FAA’s Chief of Medical Certification retired recently, Pilot Medical
Solutions hired him to provide aeromedical summaries for complex cases,
but Pilot Medical Solutions newest Guru, Amanda Scruggs, says most cases
are approved due to the work of document managing Gurus, who are
intimately familiar with the FAA requirements and tirelessly mount
flight-fitness packets.
Administrative Gurus hired by Pilot Medical Solutions
must have extensive knowledge of FAA medical criteria, experience managing
government paperwork, and they must be tenacious to help pilots with
jeopardized medical issues.
“This is not rocket
science” says Scruggs. “Our job is to assure the livelihood of pilots
through timely document management. What pilots need is someone who knows
what the FAA expects and is willing to spend several hours calling,
faxing, sending and reading emails, pouring over complex paperwork,
working with the pilots’ personal physician to explain essential
phraseology and assuring compliance with constantly changing FAA
requirements. This is a labor intensive, heavily bureaucratic process
which is usually counter-intuitive to doctors.”
Pilot Medical Solutions even has its gurus managing
clients who themselves are physicians. An objective indication that
Document Gurus are best suited to help pilots obtain FAA waivers.
