FAA - ATCS Medical Standards |

GENERAL MEDICAL |
All other medical conditions
will be evaluated on an individual basis. All applicants' medical histories
and current examinations will be carefully reviewed. This includes past
medical records and, if applicable, a review of military medical records.

MEDICATIONS |
ATCS Disqualifying medications / drugs:
- Any drugs, such as but
not limited to antihypertensive agents or duodenal ulcer medications,
which have an effect on the central or autonomic nervous system.
- Sedative type drugs
- Tranquilizers
- Any other drug and/or
medication likely to affect the alertness, judgment, vision, equilibrium,
or state of consciousness.

CARDIOVASCULAR |
No medical history of any form
of heart disease. A medical history of high blood pressure requiring
medication will require a review. |
| COLOR VISION |
Normal Color Vision
Discrimination. |
|
DIABETES |
A
medical history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes mellitus will require
special medical review. |
| HEARING |
No hearing loss in either ear of
more than 25db at 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz and no more than a 20 Db loss in the
better ear by audiometry, using ANSI 1969 standards. |

NEUROLOGICAL |
No medical history or clinical
diagnosis of a convulsive disorder or a disturbance of consciousness without
satisfactory explanation of the cause, and must not be under any treatment,
including preventative, for any condition of the nervous system. |

MENTAL |
A
medical history or clinical diagnosis of a psychosis, or other severe mental
disorder is disqualifying. All Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) applicants must take and pass a
psychological exam. |
|
SUBSTANCE DEPENDENCE / ABUSE |
A history of substance abuse /
dependency including alcohol, narcotics, non-narcotic drugs and other
substances must be extensively investigated. |
|
VISION |
Distant Vision: 20/20 or
better in each eye separately, with or without correction. Near Vision: 20/20 or
better in each eye separately, with or without correction. |
DISQUALIFYING
CONDITIONS
|
Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) personnel with disqualifying
conditions may still be eligible for "Special Consideration" of a medical
certificate.
